Digestion depends on a lot of factors. Usually it takes between 12 hours up to 72 hours depending upon the type of food that you take in. the food remains in the stomach for 3 to 5 hours and then it is moved on to the intestine where it is digested. Any undigested food that is there is passed on to the large intestine where it is eliminated out of your body. The stomach releases the food slowly to the intestine for digestion. Any vegetarian food that you take would be digested quickly than the food items like steak etc. It is found that the items like steak might even take two or three days to digest properly. For quick digestion it is better to have vegetarian foods.

Taking sufficient quantity of water also helps you in digestion. So it is always better to have the right quantity of water too. The digestion process is a complicated process where lots of secretions are involved. The bile produced by the liver also plays an important role in breaking down the fats that you eat.
