Dialysis is a process by which the unwanted impurities from the blood like salt and urea are removed. During this process the blood is passed through a semi-permeable membrane. This membrane is in a solution called dialysate. A semi-permeable membrane allows some particles to pass through while retaining others. The Dialysate solution allows for ultra-filtration effectively. You should know that the kidney removes the urea and certain salts from the blood. This function is replicated in the dialysis machine. This machine filters the urea and the salts in the blood. The blood from the patient is passed through semi-porous tubes. These tubes are dipped in sterile solution which consists of sugars, water, and other. The red blood corpuscles and the while blood corpuscles would not pass through the membrane whereas the urea and other salts in the blood pass through it and thus the blood is cleansed.
